Scraping Ice and Snow off of Cora

Today I was very happy for the first time in 2011.

I started the year with an unforgiving work schedule and a bad cold. And we were slammed with crazed people who were stocking up for a blizzard worse than Buffalo, New York has ever seen. In Buffalo, people have frozen to death in their cars on the freeway.

Anyway, I bundled up this morning and went outside to scrape the ice and, hmm, two inches of snow off the car. The sparkling flecks of ice flying up into and past my face and the sounds of the scraper against the crust of the ice brought back memories of myself as a young woman living at the top of Maine. I was employed, independent, and responsible. I was respected in my job and my family. What a wonderful time in my life. I wished I could continue reliving that era, but the car was finished and it was time to go back into the house.

Merry Christmas

Did you know if you say to someone,"I don't see how I will have a Merry Christmas," more than likely, they will say, "You too!" I didn't say it, I'm fine. I was just thinking how people are.

Panic City

Panic City, that is what Walmart resembled tonight. This is the last Saturday before Christmas. It is surprising how many people buy the toy reindeer that poops out chocolate candies. I haven't seen much Hannah Montana mdse go through lately. And I haven't checked out one fancy dress for little girls. I >have<>

Big Jeremy Little Jeremy

I was talking with a customer today about imaginary friends. My boy, Paul, had two when he was little, Big Jeremy and Little Jeremy. He pronounced them Germie. One day, he told me that Big Germie flushed Little Germie down the toilet. I guess that can happen when you are imaginary!

Don't Want to go Back to Work

Well, my hours are decent, but it's still cold outside; and I'd rather sit on the couch with my little dog, Trigger, and watch I Love Lucy. All the stores were out of De-Icer yesterday. I hope my car door opens.

I Miss the Colors

I spent part of the day looking back at photos of my 2008 garden. It's nice to look at them when it's gray and white outside and the temperature doesn't get above 25. I have a Camellia bush that is covered in buds and I have bulbs coming up for the spring already.

52 Pick Up

Today is my birthday. We had an ice storm and the roads are treacherous. So I'm hibernating. At least I have the day off from work. I thought it was just a coincidence until I got a birthday card from my boss saying, "Enjoy your day off." How nice! Tomorrow it's back to the salt mines. Merchandise, Cash Registers, Customers, Tired Feet.
